Encontro das Águas, the Meeting of Waters, is the confluence where the dark, warmer Rio Negre and the sandy, colder Solimões River meet up to form the Amazon River. It takes them six kilometers (3.7 miles) to start mixing together and even longer to fully blend, as you can see on Google Maps.
